FLYING SPARROWS:
ALL the children can fly around a designated area with arms out until the teacher says… FREEZE? They will stop in exactly the position they were “flying” in until the teacher says to FLY. (This is a good way to get alot of extra energy out of the children before story time!)

COUNTING HAIRS:
Divide children into groups of 2. Give children 60 seconds to COUNT the hairs of their partner’s head.
Children will begin to realize just HOW AMAZING it is that GOD knows the hairs on everyone’s heads!!

BIBLE CHARADES:
Let children take turns making actions for ways that GOD loves and cares for us from today’s readings. When someone guesses what the action was, then that child can take a turn in showing the class an action.

JELLY BEAN WRITING CONTEST:
Each child can be given a small bowl of jelly beans. As the teacher gives a word to spell, the children will try to form that short word with their jelly beans, such as GOD, LOVE, CARE, CROSS, etc. If children are younger, the teacher could have them form a cross or a bird, etc. Children may eat their beans if their hands were clean before doing the writing contest.

FIRST AID GAME TRAY:
Option 1: Place many medical firstaid items on a tray and pass around for a few minutes. Then take the tray away and ask children to write or draw pictures of all the things that they can remember being on the tray. Have discussion about Jesus coming to heal the SICK and how silly it would be to use first aid items if someone was sick or hurting. Option 2: Children can take PICTURES of medical supplies off a tray and glue onto a poster and title it with THE SICK NEED A DOCTOR AND SINNERS NEED JESUS!

FIRST AID SUPPLIES:
Blindfold children and have them reach into a bag of first aid supplies and hand that item to someone else who is blindfolded and see if they can describe and guess what the item is. Let children know that we’ll be talking about who needs a doctor and who needs Jesus!

SIDEWALK CHALK SICK MAN:
Let children trace each other on the sidewalk and then each child can draw a bandaid or cast on arm or leg, etc on their tracing. Discussion about our Bible lesson today and being willing to go to those in NEED, to share Jesus’ love.

PIN THE BANDAID ON SICK CHILD:
Let children take turns being blindfolded and trying to stick a bandaid on another child in the room. Have all other children stand around the room very quietly so the blindfolded child won’t know who they are putting the bandaid on. When they DO find a child and stick that bandaid on, let the children try to say today’s Bible verse with the teacher’s help, just leaving out a word here and there for the children to fill in the correct word.

If JESUS doesn’t say to GO, then the children will stand still until the next command. This can lead into our Bible lesson today. (Teacher can let children take turns at this “Simon Says-type-game”).

DISCIPLE OF JESUS “BRACELET”
Children can make bracelets with lettered beads if available and if time allows, OR children can make a construction paper bracelet that they have written DISCIPLE OF JESUS on and this can be taped to the child’s wrist, to remind them of their lesson today.

Kid’s Activity Ideas

One of the significant parts of the Pentecost story is that people who spoke different languages were able to understand one another. Take that idea and learn something in a different language together as a family. Here’s a resource that has “I love you” in 100 different languages. How many could your family learn?

This is a fun idea for making flames with paint, a plate, and a salad spinner
Crazy fun! (But who has a salad spinner anymore?!) Might need to find one just for this activity.

UP, UP AND AWAY BALLOON FLIGHT:
Children blow up a balloon and place a small piece of paper inside that will say JESUS LOVES YOU. Go outside, let all the balloons take flight at the same time and watch the balloons go higher and higher. Pray for people who might find the balloons and read the LOVE NOTE inside the balloon!

CHALK TALK:
Children go outside to a sidewalk or a parking lot, take a large piece of chalk and draw a very large balloon on various areas that are available. Give each child a different word to write inside their drawn balloon from today’s lesson, such as heaven, Jesus, Holy Spirit; Ascension, power, etc. Then walk the class from balloon to balloon and let children tell a little bit about that word from what they have learned from the Bible story today!
